Celebrity Financial Advisor Charged with Fraud

Publicado  May 27, 2010

Manhattan- Kenneth Starr, a celebrity financial adviser to stars including actors Wesley Snipes and Sly Stallone, was charged today with carrying out a massive $30 million fraud on his clients -- then spending the money on a luxury apartment and jewelry, federal prosecutors said.

Starr, head of the Manhattan-based Starr and Co., was charged with wire fraud, fraud by an investment advisor, money laundering, making false statements to the IRS and lying to federal agents.

Starr is accused of promising his clients that their money would be invested in "sure deals" -- but instead steered the cash to himself and his associates in "risky" investments, according to the 37-page indictment unsealed by the Manhattan US Attorney's Office.

His associates included Andrew Stein, a one-time mayoral hopeful who had served as Manhattan borough president.

Starr's stripper wife, Diana Passage, was also implicated in the scheme -- accused by the feds of operating a company named Colcave, LLC. The feds said the company was a place were Starr commonly transferred money to.

Starr had "direct control" to his clients' personal bank accounts and routinely made unauthorized transfers, the feds said.

Lawyers for Starr and Stein did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

When a client made a demand for payment for a return on an investment, Starr took the money from one account to another in what the feds said was a scam "characteristic of a Ponzi scheme."

According to a separate SEC complaint also filed today, Starr and others had power of attorney, or signatory authority, that enabled them to control many bank and investment accounts belonging to their clients.

As a result, Starr was able to use some of his clients’ funds to purchase a posh $7.6 million East Side apartment. The five-bedroom apartment includes a rec room with a wet bar, a 32-foot granite lap pool and a 1,500 square-foot garden.

He also splurged on a $32,000 wedding band and a $13,000 pair of diamond earrings, according to the complaint.

Starr allegedly misappropriated about $1.7 million from one client over several dates between August 2009 and November 2009, including about $1 million from an account for a charity run by that investor, according to the SEC.

He also allegedly tried to withdraw another $750,000 from that client's account in April, but was unable to after the investor's bank alerted the investor.

None of the clients who were defrauded in the scheme were named in the criminal complaint.

In its lawsuit, the SEC alleged that Starr's company provides services to more than 30 high-net-worth individuals -- "many of whom are socialites or luminaries in the entertainment and business worlds." The company has assets under management in excess of $700 million.

In 2008, Starr testified that he warned Snipes that he could get into trouble if he didn't pay his taxes. Snipes, the star of the "Blade" movies, was convicted in Florida of three counts of failing to file tax returns, but was cleared on fraud and conspiracy charges.

Mobile Phone Number Suspended After Every Person Assigned To It In Last 10 Years Dies

Publicado

Bulgarian mafia boss, Konstantin Dimitrov, was gunned down in 2003 by a lone assassin in the Netherlands

A mobile phone company has suspended the number 0888 888 888 – after every single person assigned to it died in the last 10 years.

The first owner Vladimir Grashnov – the former CEO of Bulgarian mobile phone company Mobitel which issued the number – died of cancer in 2001 aged just 48.

Despite a spotless business record there were persistent rumours that his cancer had been caused by a business rival using radioactive poisoning.

The number then passed to Bulgarian mafia boss, Konstantin Dimitrov, who was gunned down in 2003 by a lone assassin in the Netherlands during a trip to inspect his £500 million drug smuggling empire.

Dimitrov, who died aged 31, had the mobile with him when he was shot while eating out with a model.

Russian mafia bosses – jealous of his drug smuggling operation – were said to have been behind the killing.

The last owner of 0888 888 888 was Konstantin Dishliey, and estate agent who ran a cocaine trafficking operation and was gunned down at a restaurant in Sofia Bulgaria in 2005.

Dishliev, an estate agent, had secretly been running a massive cocaine trafficking operation before his assassination in 2005.

He died after £130 million of the drug was intercepted by police on its way into the country from Colombia.

Since then, the number is understood to have been dormant while police maintained an open file on Dishliev's killing and his smuggling ring.

Now phone bosses are said to have suspended the number for good. Callers now get a recorded message saying the phone is "outside network coverage."

A Mobitel spokesman would only say: "We have no comment to make. We won't discuss individual numbers."

T.I. Says Eminem Helped Him Through Tough Time By Reaching Out To Him In Prison

Publicado  May 26, 2010

When T.I. first ventured out to get an Eminem verse on "Touchdown" for 2007's T.I. vs. T.I.P., the King of the South thought the best-case scenario would be that he'd get 16 bars of fire and a hit record. The ATL native gained much more than that while working with Marshall Mathers: a friendship.

"I reached out to Em," Tip explained to MTV News. "My management reached out to his management, just in hopes of getting him on a record. Em personally reached out to me, and we been speaking ever since, especially since I went through my situation [with having to go to prison]. [He would] just kinda remind me that 'I've been through dark period in my life too. You're gonna make it. You're one of the ones we need, so you're gonna make it. Stand tall and walk the walk.' He just made it a point to always reassure me of the spot that I hold in this thing that we got called hip-hop. It was incredibly helpful. It was incredibly noble of him, in my eyes, to even take the time out to reach out to me."

Tip says while he being prosecuted and sentenced for illegally attempting to purchase firearms, Eminem would call him once every two weeks.

"We continue to stay in touch," Tip said. "He wrote me since I was in the joint. We've spoken several time since I've been back home. We maintain a healthy relationship."

Just like Tip has overcome severe circumstances with his conviction, Eminem overcame a drug addiction that almost resulted in a fatal overdose.

"Adversity brings strength," T.I. said. "No matter where the adversity comes from, you become a better person if you are able to channel that strength in a positive way. If you are able to take that experience and learn from it, and you're willing to grow from it, accept the part you've played in it and move forward, I think you're a better person. That's something that I can see he's experienced that I've experienced, that we both share in common."

T.I. and Eminem have agreed to record a song for Tip's August 17 LP King Uncaged.

Chris Brown Fans Divided As He Unveils Explicit New Video For "No Bullsh*t"

Publicado

Chris Brown's career is at a crossroads. The singer's last album, 2009's 'Graffiti' wasn't the commercial success he had hoped. And coming on the heels of his physical assault of then girlfriend Rihanna maybe that backlash from fans should have been expected.

Feeling like pop radio has abandoned him, the R&B star has gone in a totally different direction on his new mixtape 'Fan Of A Fan'. A collaborative effort with Young Money rapper Tyga.

A new video from the tape for the song "No Bullsh*t" is already stirring controversy and dividing some of his long time fans because of its sometimes R-rated content.

The video shows Chris getting his "grown man" on with a young lady. With shots of him licking and kissing in certain places you usually don't see in a music video. Especially one from the usually more reserved Chris Brown.

As one fan, hupakoe05 wrote in the comment section of the video on youtube.

"it's one thing to grow up... it's another to sell out.... be different...you have to put out a ass-licking video cause everybody else is? smh"

Another fan, tashatambara had a completely different take on it

"Chris BREZZY IS THE SH*T... I LOVE HIM so much.. this song got me... Good video .. i love his dance steps.. every move and heart beat was so passionate... for all d negative comments on dis video, y'll shud appreciate hardwork and dont hate... cos Chris is Fly, and y'all probably not even by the terminal....."

Chris addresses his fans on Twitter about the video, writing, "just so u know.. all these videos r for you.. the fans. Ive never done it for the industry or approval of my peers(other artists) i do it for u... everyone else can just follow my lead".

Every artist with a teen fan base like a Chris Brown or a Miley Cyrus has to make a decision to either keep making bubbly pop songs or try to gain an adult audience.

Death Toll Rising As Jamaican Security Forces Battle Gunmen Loyal To 'Shower Posse' Boss Christopher ''Dudus'' Coke

Publicado  May 25, 2010

At least 30 people have now been killed during running battles between troops and heavily armed gangsters on the streets of Jamaica.

As the death toll rose in street battles between security forces and supporters of Christopher “Dudus” Coke, the Foreign Office “strongly advised” British citizens to avoid all non-essential travel in the area.

America and other European countries have also heightened warnings to their citizens over the danger in and around Kingston.

Violence has spread to other parts of the island and police have detained 211 people in their hunt for Coke, who is being protected by his supporters.

More than 1,000 police and soldiers launched an assault on Coke’s stronghold and the government has declared a state of emergency.

On the third consecutive day of violence, one of the main hospitals in Kingston had to be closed after armed gangs attacked police outside the building.

Other hospitals offered only emergency services and the government appealed for donations of blood. Schools and numerous businesses were closed. The British High Commission in Kingston was closed as was the US embassy.

Police shut off access roads into the gangster stronghold of Tivoli Gardens, as explosions shook the area and sent up billowing smoke. Local radio stations were inundated with desperate calls from Tivoli residents trapped in their homes by the gunfire.

At least three members of the security forces have been killed but the remainder of the dead were said to be civilians.

The US Department of State described the situation in the city as “deteriorating” and warned its citizens against travel to Kingston and surrounding areas.

With the access road between the capital and its international airport intermittently closed due to sporadic gun battles, airlines have started to cancel flights there.

A string of police stations have been firebombed, some of them outside the capital, and gunmen even attacked the central police headquarters in Kingston.

The fighting has not yet spread into the city’s wealthier neighbourhoods but it has broken out in other slum areas.

In Spanish Town, west of Kingston, police said two people, including a little boy, had been killed in fighting.

In Portmore, another poor town, gunmen sprayed bullets at a minivan full of local people.

The violence was sparked by the Jamaican government’s belated decision to agree to US demands for Mr Coke’s extradition to New York to face drug and gun trafficking charges.

Mr Coke, 41, is a godfather-like figure in Tivoli Gardens, a rundown neighbourhood where his supporters have blockaded streets.

He is believed to be hiding inside, refusing government demands that he give himself up to the judicial process.

Mr Coke allegedly leads the Shower Posse, a violent drug gang also active in the US, Britain and Canada. They have historically been loyal to Jamaica’s ruling Labour Party.

Jamaican politicians set up rival gangs — allegedly even arming them – in the 1970s to mobilise local support at election time but the gangs have since largely turned to drug trafficking.

The drug trade is deeply entrenched in Jamaica, which is the largest producer of marijuana in the region and where gangs have become powerful organised crime networks involved in international gun smuggling. It fuels one of the world’s highest murder rates; the island of 2.8 million people had about 1,660 homicides in 2009.

Elin Nordegren Wants $750 Million For Tiger Woods Divorce

Publicado

Wronged wife Elin Nordegren is trying to club an eye-popping $750 million out of Tiger Woods in their divorce negotiations, according to reports Friday.

Woods hasn't agreed yet, but if he does he wants total silence from his soon-to-be ex about the collapse of their marriage - forever, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Nordegren has so far said no to signing a lifetime "confidentiality clause" that would prevent her from writing a book or doing any interviews about the split.

She reportedly also wants full custody of their two kids even though it was first thought the couple were going to agree to joint custody.

Sources said the divorce negotiations "have turned extremely testy" and the couple no longer talk to each other.

Nordegren has spent a lot of time away from Woods in recent months. She went to Arizona alone for nearly a week recently and took the kids to Sweden while Woods played golf.

Woods, meanwhile, is hanging out in Florida with a blond woman, who looks a lot like Elin, RadarOnline reported.

Manny Pacquiao Agrees To Blood Testing, Taunts Floyd Mayweather Jr "Now He Won't Have A Reason Not To Fight Me"

Publicado

Manny Paquiao is telling Floyd Mayweather Jr to put up or shut up.

The seven time world champinon has agreed to Olympic Style drug tresting clearing the way for the mega fight everyone wants to see reports ABS-CBN and UK Telegraph.

"So he (Mayweather) will no longer have a reason (not to fight)," Pacquiao said. "Let's see if that is really the reason."

Negotiations for their fight fell apart because Manny refused to agree to blood testing the first time around. But Pac-Man said that's because it's the boxing commision's job to dictate the rules not the fighters.

"I'm a boxer, so why should I interfere with the work of the commission? That's the reason commissions are there, so they can set the rules."

Manny insists blood testing be cut off 14 days to the fight. That shouldn't be a problem at all because testing was stopped 18 days prior to Mayweather's last fight against Shane Mosely says Paquiao's promotor Bob Arum.

"The USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) stopped the blood test... they took 5 or 6 tests but the last one was 18 days for Mosley and 19 days for Mayweather," Arum told ABS-CBN News.

Arum added that this fight which would likely generate one of the biggest purses and television audiences in boxing history, could take place on November 13 in Texas or Las Vegas.

Inter win Champions League final (2-0)

Publicado

Diego Milito scored both goals as Inter Milan beat Bayern Munich 2-0 in the Champions League final in Madrid, as manager Jose Mourinho engineered an historic treble.

Argentine striker Milito embarrassed each of Bayern's centre-backs in turn as the Bavarians' vulnerable defensive core was ruthlessly exposed.

In their first Champions League final since 1972, Inter won their third European title and first since 1965.

They also became the first Italian team to achieve the treble of Serie A, Italian Cup and Champions League.

Despite a bright opening, Bayern were denied their own treble hopes for the second time having also missed out at the death in 1999 when Manchester United beat them in Barcelona.

The victory was also the perfect way for Mourinho to sign off as Inter coach with the Portuguese expected to be named the new coach of Real Madrid next week.

Inter's Samuel Eto'o became only the fourth player to win the competition in successive seasons with different clubs having been on the Barcelona winning team a year ago.

Bayern came closest early on as Arjen Robben beat Cristian Chivu and Walter Samuel with some wing wizardry down the right but Ivica Olic prodded his cross wide of the near post.

Bayern had a decent penalty shout when Daniel Van Buyten's header hit Maicon's arm.

Milito's first goal on 35 minutes came against the run of play and from a defensive lapse as Inter targeted the fragile heart of Bayern's defence.

Goalkeeper Julio Cesar punted the ball upfield and Milito held off Martin Demichelis to flick it on to Sneijder.

The Argentine forward then turned and left his compatriot on the wrong side of goal before taking Sneijder's return pass and exploiting the gap behind Demichelis to clip the ball over Butt.

It took until the 70th minute for Milito to settle the match.

He beat Van Buyten one-on-one, dropped a shoulder before stroking the ball home past Butt with aplomb for his sixth goal in the tournament this season.

Bayern tried to press late on, with coach Louis van Gaal throwing on forwards Miroslav Klose and Mario Gomez.

But Inter held out with the help of late substitute Marco Materazzi, who was given two minutes so Milito could be taken off to a rousing reception from the Inter fans.
