Nick Cannon Finally Addresses Mariah Carey's Pregnancy Reports

Publicado  July 17, 2010

Although Cannon and Carey previously refused to deny or confirm the rumor, the 'America's Got Talent' host has now cleared out, 'Mariah is not pregnant. The timing has to be right.'

Nick Cannon has fired off at reports his wife Mariah Carey is expecting the couple's first child - he insists she is not pregnant. Speculation has swirled around the couple for weeks after Carey pulled out of a Tyler Perry movie over mysterious health concerns in June.

Neither Carey nor Cannon have spoken about the health issue - or the pregnancy rumors, until now. Cannon tells America's Star magazine, "Mariah is not pregnant. The timing has to be right. But I can't wait to be a dad!"

When pulling out from Perry's "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf", Carey's publicist said that it was because of doctor's orders, saying "She is not doing the movie because her doctor advised her not to," which later sparked stories that she's having a bun in the oven.

Montana School District Wants To Teach Sex Education To Kindergarten Kids, Parents Protest

Publicado

An overflow crowd jammed the Helena school board meeting Tuesday night to voice their concerns -- and support -- about a proposal to extend sex education to children as young as kindergarten age.

According to the 62-page draft proposal, beginning in kindergarten, school nurses will teach students proper terms such as "nipple, breast, penis, scrotum and uterus." Once they are promoted to first grade, children will learn that sexual relations could happen between two men or two women. By the time students are 10 years old, instruction will include the various ways people can have intercourse, be it vaginally, orally or through "anal penetration," according to the proposal.

"As educators and as parents and as communities, we need to be more proactive in helping inform our students at an appropriate age what the risk factors are associated with their own behaviors so that they can make better decisions about their well-being," Dr. Bruce Messinger, the Superintendent of Helena Public Schools, told Fox News.

The Montana Family Foundation is fighting the proposed changes, telling Fox News its biggest concern is teaching graphic sexual detail to kids who are not emotionally able to process or comprehend it. If the changes pass, kids as young as 5 will begin to learn medically accurate names for a number of both male and female "private parts."

"The problem is they think it would be age appropriate to teach different sexual positions and different sexual variations to 10 year olds," said Jeff Laszloffy of the Montana Family Foundation.

Messinger said parents will be able to have their kids opt-out, but Laszloffy said teachers want to have the same option.

"I think the reason it is such a concern is it tramples parental rights, it places government squarely between parents and their children," Laszloffy said.

Laszloffy said teachers are calling to seek legal advice about whether they can be forced to teach the information, and parents are threatening to pull children out of the public school system.

“Parents and taxpayers are not for this,” he said.

Tuesday night’s meeting was heated as school board trustees heard from only 64 of the more than 300 people who jammed the auditorium. More than 100 others stood outside the Front Street Learning Center as a sound system broadcast the proceedings.

Melanie Reynolds, a district health officer, defended the proposed curriculum, saying early education and intervention was needed to prevent HIV infection or other sexually transmitted diseases. She cited a report that said 40 percent of reported Chlamydia cases in county were people between the ages of 14 and 18, the Helena Independent Record reported.

Angela Helland-Hansen told the board that she was surprised to see that staff from Planned Parenthood were included in the committee that developed the document.

“Why are we allowing Planned Parenthood to help with this when they stand to profit from these people who will be their future clients?” the Record reported.

Two middle school girls said an abstinence-based program would be more effective to reduce teen pregnancy and disease than what is being proposed, the newspaper reported. There currently is no sexual education being taught in middle school.

Deadline Passes For Floyd Mayweather Jr To Accept Fight. Manny Pacquiao Looking At Miguel Cotto Or Antonio Margarito As Replacement

Publicado

Manny Pacquiao reluctantly will look for another opponent for his next bout after promoter Bob Arum's deadline for a deal with Floyd Mayweather Jr. passed Saturday without a word from Mayweather.

In the latest improbable twist in the torturous negotiations for the most tantalizing prospective fight in boxing, Arum said Mayweather's camp simply hasn't responded to a contract proposal with no obvious points of contention.

Pacquiao already has agreed to extensive drug testing and an equitable split of the earnings from what's likely to be the richest fight in boxing history.

"Floyd, for whatever reason — and I'm sure he has some valid reason — didn't want to commit," Arum said.

Although Arum was careful not to criticize Mayweather, saying the fighter who calls himself Money could take the incredibly lucrative offer at any point in the next week or so, Arum plans to open discussions with Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto for a fight with Pacquiao in November.

"(Pacquiao-Mayweather) is dead when we conclude a deal for Manny's fight in November," Arum said. "Then we're contractually bound to that fight, and we would look to do a deal with Floyd for next year. If Floyd emerged and said he wanted to do the fight (in November), then there would be nothing opposed to doing the fight."

Arum claims he couldn't wait any longer to start the time-consuming process of putting together a fight for Pacquiao, whose personal schedule has tightened up with his election to congress in his native Philippines this year. Arum said Top Rank needs several months to put together television deals and publicity tours for the bout.

Pacquiao and Mayweather are their sport's top two stars, and a meeting likely would be worth more than $40 million to each fighter. They've discussed a bout for several months since Mayweather's return from a brief retirement, but haven't made a deal.

Although he hasn't spoken directly to Mayweather, Arum believes the former pound-for-pound champion might be reluctant because of the legal woes of Roger Mayweather, his uncle and longtime trainer. Roger Mayweather will go on trial in Las Vegas next month on assault charges stemming from an altercation with a female boxer last year.

"It would be a shame if it didn't happen, but I don't think (anybody) should be too harsh on Floyd in this situation," Arum said. "I would have liked him to communicate, but I really believe that this issue with the uncle has an effect. Putting myself in their shoes, I would feel a lot of reluctance going into this big fight without my trainer, and we're not going to know what the outcome of this criminal situation is for quite some time."

Arum also gave a little insight into the murky negotiations, which were conducted with much less public grandstanding than in the rancorous talks during the 2009 holidays, which ended with no deal — and with Pacquiao suing members of the Mayweather camp for insinuating he uses performance-enhancing drugs.

Arum said he never spoke directly to Mayweather, his representatives at Golden Boy Promotions or even Al Haymon, Mayweather's chief adviser. Instead, Arum spoke solely to HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg, who served as a mediator between Top Rank and Mayweather's camp.

Mayweather's camp has been utterly silent throughout the negotiations, with Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer even refusing to acknowledge talks were occurring. Haymon never grants interviews or makes public statements about his varied boxing interests.

Mayweather's official Twitter feed, which usually is overflowing with plugs for his iPhone application, music ventures and charity endeavors, hasn't been updated since Thursday afternoon.

Although Top Rank informed Greenburg of its deadline — and even tweaked Mayweather by putting a countdown clock on its website — Greenburg and Haymon hadn't responded by Friday night.

"The fight that we want to do is Mayweather," Arum said. "We haven't said anything different, we haven't acted differently, but Manny has to fight in November. We're going to proceed with all deliberate speed, but if in the interim Floyd decides that, despite the Roger situation, that he wants to fight Manny, absolutely, that's the fight we want."

Pacquiao is unlikely to have much trouble reaching a deal with either of the replacement opponents identified by Arum. since Cotto and Margarito both are fellow Top Rank fighters.

Pacquiao stopped Cotto last November to win the WBO welterweight title in a fairly one-sided fight, but Arum said the rematch would be at super welterweight, where Cotto rejuvenated his career by claiming the WBA title at Yankee Stadium last month. The match also is enticing because Pacquiao could go after a title in his eighth weight class.

While Pacquiao and Cotto would meet either at Cowboys Stadium or in Las Vegas, Arum said Pacquiao might have to fight Margarito in Monterrey, Mexico — which could be a financial boon to both fighters, given Mexico's lower withholding taxes. Margarito's suspension in California still hasn't been lifted after he was caught using illegal hand wraps in a January 2009 bout, essentially making him unable to fight anywhere stateside without an exemption.

Arum scoffed at the notion of matching Pacquiao against Paul Williams, Timothy Bradley or other lesser-known fighters who might be even more deserving of a shot at the world's best boxers, calling them "free riders" on Pacquiao's financial muscle.

"Paul Williams is a tremendous fighter, really a great fighter, but he's never been promoted correctly," Arum said. "He doesn't have any following. He can't sell a ticket. ... I'm not going to let anybody have a free ride."

Restored Da Vinci painting reveals hidden details

Publicado  July 15, 2010

A restoration project for Leonardo da Vinci's "Virgin of the Rocks" has revealed new details and suggest the Renaissance artist may have painted all the picture himself, instead of with his assistants as previously thought, a British gallery said Wednesday.

The 18-month conservation project involved removing much of some badly degraded varnish that was applied to the painting in the late 1940s, enabling experts to take a much closer look at the picture's brush strokes and styles, the National Gallery said.

The cleaning revealed the painting's full tonal range, especially in the darker areas, and resulted in a clearer sense of how the artist intended for space to recede through the rocky landscape, the gallery said.

It also affirmed that Leonardo likely painted the entire picture himself and intended for it to be unfinished.

The restored painting showed a range of completion from the barely sketched hand of the angel to the fully realized heads of the main figures — consistent with many of Leonardo's works. The Italian artist, said to be the "eternal perfectionist," is thought to have left his pictures unfinished because he wished to return to them later, gallery spokesman Thomas Almeroth-Williams said.

In the past, scholars believed the different levels of finish in "Virgin of the Rocks" showed that Leonardo was helped by assistants.

The painting dates from about 1491 to 1508 and is a later version of one on display in the Louvre in Paris.

The latest cleaning project followed years of scrutiny of the masterpiece.

In 2005, experts using infrared technology found two drawings hidden beneath the surface of the picture — one design was never painted, and the second one revealed Leonardo changed his mind about the subject several times.

The painting goes back on display in the National Gallery on Wednesday.

Michael Jackson's Burial Tomb Vandalized With Hidden Messages

Publicado

Hollyscoop.com: Poor Michael Jackson, even in the afterlife he can't seem to get some peace and quiet.

A group of random MJ fans vandalized his gravesite over the weekend by writing messages with a permanent marker.

Some of the messages include, "Miss you sweet angel" and "Keep the dream alive."

And thanks to the inconsiderate fans, security has been beefed up around his memorial site.

A rep for the site tells TMZ.com, "Activity such as this is a prime example why we are evaluating the level of access to the various entrances of the Great Mausoleum."

It sucks that a few people ruined access to MJ's site for everyone else. They could have easily left their messages on a note instead of vandalizing his gravesite.

And some of them were stupid enough to sign it with their full name! So inconsiderate and rude!

Solar eclipse of July 11, 2010

Publicado  July 12, 2010

A total solar eclipse took place on July 11, 2010.
The eclipse was visible over much of the southern Pacific Ocean, touching several small islands including Tuamotu in French Polynesia, Mangaia in the Cook Islands and Easter Island.

Fred Espenak, NASA Astrophysicist said:
One of the most unique things about this particular eclipse is that it crosses a unique and interesting archaeological site: Easter Island. On Easter Island there are these great statues... There's a lot of mystery about these statues, but in any case, this is the first total eclipse that's hit the island in about 1,400 years.

Esther Baxter Strips Down For A Good Cause.

Publicado

Esther brought her young son along with her as she lent her ample talents to the Save Our Sea campaign.

Vibe magazine asked her why she decided to get involved.

VIBE: How did you get involved with the Oil Spill PSA?

Esther Baxter: Well, I was just talking to a friend of mine one day who also models and we felt like we needed to get involved. It just didn’t make sense to us that more wasn’t being done to fix the problem. I mean 70,000 gallons of oil are being spilled out everyday. Plus, not enough people in the industry are aware of it. So we decided to try and help the cause and bring awareness to the problem. No one in the industry has really took the initiative to speak out and help bring attention to the cause, so hopefully more people will catch on and help after this.

Vibe: You really got down and dirty for the cause…

That’s the whole point of this campaign—we want to show people that we’re really getting involved and doing whatever we have to in order to fix the problem, even if that means getting down and dirty. I don’t see enough people reaching out—I just can’t understand how BP is allowed to get away with it and they’re still selling gas! We’re covering ourselves in oil to show that nobody or nothing can be as beautiful as their full potential when they are covered in this stuff. I mean we have like a swimsuit thing going on but yeah it’s pretty much just oil.

Spain beat Holland 1-0

Publicado

Spain won the World Cup for the first time on Sunday, Andres Iniesta netting in extra-time to see off Holland 1-0 in Johannesburg and hand the Dutch their third final loss.

With just four minutes of extra-time remaining, substitute Fernando Torres slid over a cross from the left which was partially cleared as far as Cesc Fabregas and his pass found Iniesta lurking in the area.

The Barcelona star promptly set his sights and fired past Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Five minutes earlier, the Dutch were down to 10 men when referee Howard Webb red-carded John Heitinga for a foul on Iniesta.

A niggly game saw a proliferation of yellow cards and missed chances at both ends - most notably in the first period of extra-time when Spanish substitute Fabregas raced onto a pass from Iniesta only to see Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg block his shot.

Then fellow substitute Jesus Navas looked odds on to score but his shot deflected off Giovanni van Bronckhorst and hit the side-netting.
