Just A Few Weeks After Appearing On 'American Idol', Usher Says TV Talent Shows Are Killing The Music Industry

R&B star Usher has accused TV talent shows of killing the music industry. Just weeks after the singer appeared as a mentor on the current season of "American Idol", Usher has blasted the show and its rivals for making talented singers celebrities and then casting them aside.

He says, "The true art form of music is being lost, because it seems so easy that everyone can do it, and that it can happen overnight. Television is a lie. It can't happen overnight. The artist who thinks that it can just comes and goes. The reason why great singers cannot exist in this time is maybe because they're not properly managed, and maybe they don't understand the full gamut of what being an entertainer is."

"We're dealing with an industry that is slowly but surely dying, every day. There's the record companies that are mass-producing these versions of these people; versions of this broken art. While it works, because it sells records, it damages the business."

Rapper Nelly's Bodyguard Murdered

ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - A murder investigation is hitting close to home for St. Louis rap star, Nelly. Multiple sources close to Nelly tell News 11 the victim was one of Nelly's bodyguards. The victim is 36 year old Michale Johnson sources describe him as Nelly's left hand man, or someone who was by the rapper's side providing security.

St. Louis county police responded to a home on Nola, near north Hanley Wednesday night just before midnight. Johnson was shot several times.

Police say he was either walking in or walking out of the home when someone opened fire. They're not sure if Johnson was targeted or if he interrupted a burglar who then shot him.

Police say they are retracing the victim's steps from the previous 24 hours to try and find out where he was, and what a possible motive might be.

No one has been arrested at this point.

Thursday afternoon Nelly didn't want to talk about Johnson's murder. The rap start was busy giving out scholarships at Lindenwood University. Two high school students received full tuition scholarships. This is the second year Nelly has made such a donation to the school.

Giant Blizzard Raging on Saturn

A massive blizzard is raging on Saturn — a storm so large and fierce NASA astronomers and amateur skywatchers can see it from Earth.

NASA's Cassini spacecraft currently orbiting Saturn has a front row seat to the otherworldly tempest and is recording the most detailed data yet of storms on the ringed planet. But amateur astronomers back on Earth have also managed to chip in on the Saturn blizzard stormwatch.

"We were so excited to get a heads-up from the amateurs," said Cassini scientist Gordon Bjoraker, a composite infrared spectrometer team member based at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

The data showed a large, turbulent storm, dredging up a lot of material from the deep atmosphere and covering an area at least five times larger than the biggest blizzard that hit Earth so far this year — the "Snowmageddon" storm that blanketed the Washington, D.C. area in snow in February. [Saturn's rings and moons.]

Saturn's 'storm alley'

Cassini's radio and plasma wave instrument and imaging cameras have been tracking thunder and lightning storms on Saturn for years in a region around Saturn's mid-latitudes that is nicknamed "storm alley."

But, gathering data on storms requires a tricky balancing act, since storms on Saturn can come and go on a time scale of weeks, while Cassini's imaging and spectrometer observations have to be locked in place months in advance.

Given these limitations, NASA sometimes enlists the help of amateur astronomers.

The radio and plasma wave instrument regularly picks up electrostatic discharges that are associated with the storms, so scientists have been sending periodic tips to amateurs, who can quickly go to their backyard telescopes and try to spy the bright convective storm clouds.

Amateur astronomers Anthony Wesley, Trevor Barry and Christopher Go received one of those notices in February, and were able to snap dozens of pictures over the next several weeks.

In fact, in late March, Wesley — who is based in Australia and was the first person spot the aftermath of an comet impact on Jupiter last summer — sent Cassini scientists an e-mail with a picture of the storm attached.

"I wanted to be sure that images like these were being seen by the Cassini team just in case this was something of interest to be imaged directly by Cassini or the Hubble Space Telescope," Wesley wrote.

Cassini scientists analyzed all the images in detail, including a picture from March 13 of the storm at its peak, taken by Go, who lives in the Philippines.

Saturn's storm season

Luckily, the composite infrared spectrometer happened to be targeting the latitude of the storms. The Cassini scientists had known there might be storms in that area, but were unsure when they might be active.

The Cassini spectrometer obtained data on March 25 and 26 that showed larger than expected amounts of phosphine, a gas typically found in Saturn's deep atmosphere, and an indicator that powerful currents were lifting material upward into the upper troposphere.

The spectrometer data also showed that the tropopause, which is the dividing line between the serene stratosphere and the lower churning troposphere, was about 1 degree Fahrenheit (minus 17.2 degrees Celsius) colder in the storm cell than in neighboring areas.

"A balloonist floating about 100 kilometers (62 miles) down from the bottom of Saturn's calm stratosphere would experience an ammonia-ice blizzard with the intensity of Snowmageddon," said Brigette Hesman, a composite infrared spectrometer team member and assistant research scientist at the University of Maryland.

"These blizzards appear to be powered by violent storms deeper down — perhaps another 100 to 200 kilometers (62 to 124 miles) down — where lightning has been observed and the clouds are made of water and ammonia," Hesman said.

The Cassini-Huygens mission is a joint project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The composite infrared spectrometer team is based at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

It's Fight Time: Floyd Mayweather Jr Vs Sugar Shane Mosely

Nothing in all of sports beats a great boxing match. It's the ultimate challenge, two men matching their skills and wits. Where one mistake can leave one of them staring up at the ring lights wondering what the hell just happened.

Tomorrow (May 1) in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Sugar Shane Mosley meet in a match that will determine who is the best fighter in the world today not named Manny Pacquiao.

Both fighters have already made history by agreeing to Olympic Style drug testing leading up to the fight.

"I brought USADA in to keep the sport on an even playing field. Everyone knows this is done for the betterment of the sport," says Mayweather. "After I get blood taken, I'll go in and box 12 or 13 rounds, no problem whatsoever."

Floyd will make a reported $40 million while Shane will take home $7 million for a fight that's expected to shatter all previous Pay-Per-View records.

Both fighters are confident going into the match. Floyd is the clear favorite and sees Shane as "just another victim", but that doesn't bother Shane at all.

"At this point it doesn't even bother me," he said. "They were picking (Antonio) Margarito to win, too, by a landslide, and people were talking about my health, that he was going to retire me.

"I'm telling you guys, (Mayweather's) not going to beat me."

All the talking is done now. As Michael Buffer would say, "Let's get ready to rumble!"

"I'm In Love With My Grandson and We Are Having a Baby"

A 72-YEAR-OLD granny is having an incestuous affair with her own GRANDSON — and the pair are set to have a BABY. Grey-haired Pearl Carter has shocked family and friends after beginning a bizarre relationship with her 26-year-old grandchild Phil Bailey.

Pearl, from Indiana, US, is now using her pension to pay $54,000 (£35,000) to a surrogate mother so they can have a child, say reports in New Idea magazine in New Zealand.

Pearl said: "I'm not interested in anyone else's opinion. I am in love with Phil and he's in love with me. Soon I'll be holding my son or daughter in my arms and Phil will be the proud dad."

Phil is the son of Pearl's daughter Lynette Bailey — who the pensioner put up for adoption when she was just 18.

When Lynette died, Phil tracked down his long lost gran — 46 years his senior — and they started their strange relationship.

Pearl added: "From the first moment that I saw him, I knew we would never have a grandmother-grandson relationship. For the first time in years I felt sexually alive."

The pair spent their first week together shopping, bowling and eating out. During the second week, giggly on wine after a night out, Pearl decided she wasn't going to deny her feelings anymore.

Pearl said: "I called Phil into my bedroom, sat him on the bed, and then I leant over and kissed him.

"I expected rejection but instead he kissed me back."

Phil said he had the same feelings towards Pearl.

He revealed: "I wanted to kiss her there and then. My feelings were overwhelming.

"I love Pearl with all my heart. I've always been attracted to older women and I think Pearl is gorgeous. Now I'm going to be a dad and I can't wait.

"Yes, we get laughed at and bullied when we go out and kiss in public but we don't care. You can't help who you fall for."

The pair have asked 30-year-old Roxanne Campbell to carry their child.

Pearl said: "I am finally going to be a mum and not forced to give up my child. Phil's going to be a great dad. I never in a million years thought at 72 I'd be 'pregnant' and in love with my grandson.

"I make no apologies and I believe God's given me a second chance."

Pearl says the relationship is not wrong after a friend told her about Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA) syndrome, which occurs when close relatives meet as adults and find they are attracted to each other.

She said: "I could now understand my feelings and realise they weren't wrong."

Pearl was 18 when she fell pregnant with daughter Lynette. She was living with her Catholic parents in Indiana and they insisted she give the baby away.

They organised a private adoption and Pearl never saw her baby girl again.

Pearl went on to marry but she never had any more children. Instead she searched for her lost daughter until finally giving up hope 15 years ago.

Phil met Pearl for the first time in 2006 after tracking her down when Lynette died from brain cancer.

Time Magazine's 2010, 100 Most Influential People List

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

It's that time again; time for Time Magazine to release their Time 100 list of the people they felt most influenced the world. The list is split up into four major categories: Leaders, Heroes, Artists and Thinkers. Of course, since we're pop culturally aware here at Hollywood Crush, Time's list of the 25 most influential artists caught our eye, and we think you might be a little bit surprised by some of the results.

What is unsurprising is that Lady Gaga took the top spot. The pop singer has had an extraordinary year; winning Grammy's, rocking the Billboard charts and revolutionizing the music industry. Cyndi Lauper said about Gaga in the article, "Most of the stuff on the radio is not very clever, but Gaga presents her ideas in a sophisticated manner. She has an incredible pop sensibility." We agree, and wouldn't be surprised if 10 years down the road Gaga is labeled one of the most influential people of the decade.

Those rounding out the top five also aren't very big surprises: Conan O'Brien (who probably wouldn't have made the list if he wasn't booted from "The Tonight Show" and hadn't rallied accordingly), Kathryn Bigalow (the first female director to win an Oscar), Oprah Winfrey (duh) and Valery Gergiev (an influential Russian conductor and opera director).

But then, plopped in squarely at #6, is our boy Robert Pattinson. "Influential" seems to be an understatement when used to describe the whirlwind hysteria "Twilight" has had on the world, with Rob unintentionally stuck in its center (unsurprisingly, People mag also acknowledged his prettiness this week as well).

"New Moon" director Chris Weitz spoke in Rob's honor to Time, saying, "So how to write about someone who seems to answer Freud's rhetorical question, What do women want? Perhaps it's just worth pointing out that it'd be fun to have a beer with him even if he weren't Edward Cullen. That we haven't seen a tenth of what he can do onscreen. And that important things, beyond the veil of Hollywood, occupy his time too music, conversation, ideas, a sense of the absurd. Which, maybe, explains why he never gets to my e-mails. I love you, Rob! Call me!"

Taylor Swift also got a nod at #9, thanks to winning some major Grammy's and also having her film debut (yes, in "Valentine's Day"). Stevie Nicks, who performed opposite her at the Oscars, compared her to Neil Diamond and Elton John, and said, "The female rock-'n'-roll-country-pop songwriter is back, and her name is Taylor Swift. And it's women like her who are going to save the music business."

Another surprise was Lea Michele being included in the list at number 13, though with the breakout success of "Glee" this past year — and Lea being front and center in its success — it shouldn't have been too much of a shock. Not only is she someone who is inspiring thousands across the States to follow their artistically-oriented dreams, but she also is someone we love to love, and see loved by other sites as well.

Rounding out the list is Sandra Bullock at number 22, and while we agree with the decision to include her, we're almost a little sad to see her this honor in light of everything that happened recently to help her deserve it.

She won her first Oscar, yes, had the most successful film of her career this summer and secretly adopted a baby, but also won a Razzie and ditched her husband — who turned out to be a real scumbag — in the process. While 2010 will always be known as the year Sandy had her comeback, we really feel bad that it had to go so poorly for her as well.
