BOMB At MLK Parade

Publicado  February 13, 2011

On a day that symbolizes peace and unity for our country, someone tried to commit mass murder. And what's worse is that the national media has basically ignored the story.

This past Martin Luther King Day, a bomb was found in Spokane, Washington along a parade route where thousands of people would be on their annual "Unity March."

The bomb, hidden inside a backpack was discovered a half hour before the start of the parade on January 17, along the parade route by three Spokane Public Facilities District workers, who alerted police.

According to the FBI, the bomb was neutralized by the Spokane Explosives Disposal Unit after, “subsequent preliminary analysis revealed the backpack contained a potentially deadly destructive device, likely capable of inflicting multiple casualties. The Swiss brand backpack [made by the Ibach-Schwyz, Switzerland-based Victorinox AG] and some of the clothing within it concealed the device …”

An FBI source told the Associated Press that the Bureau hasn’t “seen anything like this in this country. This was the worst device, the most intentional device, I've ever seen."

So why wasn't this a huge national story? Why isn't CNN and Fox News talking about this?

If not for the video below by MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, I would have never known about it.

Frank Harrill of the Seattle division of the FBI said "we're treating this as an act of domestic terrorism.”

In the last several weeks the investigation has reportedly made progress, as authorities try to find the identity of the bomb maker or makers.

Let's hope they are caught soon and the public is better informed on what's going on with situations like this in the future.
